LIBRARY
The ISH Library was established in September 1994. It currently holds approximately 2,500 titles, mostly in foreign languages. The library has an open access policy for all of its collections. The materials are classified according to the Dewey Decimal System. Added to the ten main subject classes are special topics dealt with in lectures or the research work at the ISH (e. g. ancient anthropology, linguistics, the Jewish question, gender studies, media studies, etc.). Slovenian serial publications are kept separately. The library subscribes to a number of periodicals dealing with humanities. The majority of them are in foreign languages. The library also holds articles and copies of discourses that form an integral part of study literature, as well as video tapes of lectures delivered by visiting professors. The library holdings are expanded by gifts from institutions and individuals, and regular purchases from the ISH’s own funds. Book purchases and periodical subscription reflect the main academic interests of the School.
Two personal computers are available to the users of the library, through which the library material and books are filed using the COBISS system and can be accessed in the OPAC electronic catalogue. Through the OPAC, the users of the library can locate materials which are not kept in the ISH library in the mutual database, and borrow them from other libraries. Library processing is fully automated, which in addition to basic information about it, enables visitors to obtain information concerning the availability of a book. Books may be borrowed for up to three weeks. If they are not in demand, this period can be extended.
The library also keeps bibliographies of the ISH researchers, as required by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The ISH library is open to the public. External users pay a fee at their first visit. Students, researchers and teachers at the ISH use the library facilities free.
